Realising Indonesian Smallholder Empowerment (RISE): Seeding farmer livelihoods

With RISE, we’re planting seeds of change, one farmer at a time.

RISE is a Golden Agri-Resources (GAR) initiative to uplift farming practices and boost the income of independent farmers. Through RISE, we do more than just improve agricultural practices, we grow together with the heart of Indonesia’s rural landscape – our farmers. We offer a helping hand through replanting support, encouraging the adoption of sustainable farming practices, and nurturing a community of knowledge and growth.

Why does this matter to us?

Indonesia’s smallholders – custodians of 4.5 million hectares – are pivotal to the global agricultural growth and food supply chain. Our goal is to expose them to sustainable practices, enable them to meet international standards and gain better access to the global market. By doing so, we’re not only supporting their success, but also strengthening our supply chain.

Together, we’re cultivating a future where the palm oil industry thrives – for the farmers who grow it, and the planet we share.

What do we do under RISE?

Smallholders Replanting Programme

Smallholders Replanting Programme (Peremajaan Sawit Rakyat/PSR)

Our PSR programme provides farmers with access to high-quality seedlings. This simple step means a world of difference: better harvests and steadier income for farming families.

The programme also bridges the gap to financial support. By connecting farmers with government grants and affordable bank financing, farmers can embark on long-term replanting projects. This will help them generate income during the three year period when the plant is immature and does not produce fruit.

Sawit

Sawit Terampil

Sawit Terampil guides farmers to improve their farming methods through group coaching and tailored mentorship.

The goal is to help them plan their farms better, adopt more efficient and sustainable practices, as well as stabilise yields. At the same time, we prepare them for ISPO and RSPO certifications. The international certification not only labels their produce as sustainably grown, but also opens doors to premium markets.
